Shells of What Makes Students Like or Dislike Reading
I asked my students what make them like or dislike reading, and at what point that happened or what caused it. Here are their results:
I like reading. I don't know when I started liking it.
Yes, I like it. When I was in first grade I started liking it.
I like reading because some of the books are funny and I like to read them. I like The Diary of Anne Frank.
When did you start to like reading?
I have always loved reading. I can't remember not liking it.
What is it about reading that you like or don't like?
What I like about reading is that you can do it anywhere. It is a good thing to do if you are just sititng at the doctor's office or if you have to wait somewhere like on the bus or something.
I like that you don't have to leave your house to travel the world when you are reading. You can go to all of these places in your mind and it's cheaper, too.
I do not like boring books.
To me reading is very relaxing.
I like that I can read about a whole bunch of different kinds of subjects when I read. I also like that I can get free books at school and at the library.
I like reading online.
More Thoughts on Reading
I hate reading something that I am forced to read. I want to make that choice on my own. I don't want someone else to tell me what to do or what to read.
I don't like books that are long and boring. Sometimes they don't say much of anything.
I like books with pictures, but not those that don't have that.
