My Life As A Reader

You could say that reading has always been a huge part of my life.  I even remember when I wrote my first letter and when I received my first book that really mattered to me.

When I was very young, probably around four years old I wrote my first letter.  It was something that was really important to me, especially because my sisters were reading and writing, so I wanted to be like them.  I tried really hard to write my first letter.  My mom showed me how to write my name so many years ago.  I remember that and I remember exactly how she did it and how she helped me.  It seems like it was just yesterday when she told me to write apples for the two r's that were the letters in my first name.  Then she told me to give them legs.  This took me a while and I clearly remember struggling with this.  Eventually, finally I was able to write my name, and things have not been the same ever since.

I also remember my first book that mattered to me.  I remember laying on the couch and I think I was home sick from school.  My mom worked then and I was in kindergarten.  My mom, brought me this gorgeous Cinderella book.  It has the most lovely cover and the illustration was so beautiful.  I think that was the moment that I fell in love with books.

My mom is gone now, but she left a lot behind.  I will never forget how she helped me read and write.  She always had a magazine in her hand, and my dad always had a newspaper or literature in his hands.  I am like that now.  I don't feel right unless I am reading or writing something.  Literature is my life.

How Often Do I Read Today?

Today I read often, in fact, I read more than I do not.  I probably don't even realize how much I read.  I read for enjoyment, for my job, for my school and for survival.  Reading is pretty much my life.  I cannot imagine the world without reading or without writing.  Literature is my thing, one of my favorite things, and there is no going back!

My Reading Future

In the future I hope to continue reading and writing as much and hopefully more than before.  I hope to expand the things that I read also.  I want to read more about the world, about history, I want to read in Spanish and learn more of the language, I want to read about reading, writing, teaching, life, death, facts, and more.  There is no end to what I want to read.  I am excited and look forward to my reading future.

I hope in my future to continue to help others to read, write and study.  It is one of my favorite things to help others learn, and literacy work is very rewarding to me.  I hope to make a positive difference in the lives of others and also to help them see the good model I can be for them in reading, writing and studying.  I love to teach reading and hope I will be able to continue doing this for a long, long time!
